Last years HTC One M9 didn’t win many fans with it’s camera. While the LG G4 and Samsung Galaxy S6 phones were getting plenty of attention for their fantastic cameras. The One M9 really didn’t impress anyone and was kind of forgotten.

This year it looks like HTC decided to take notice and change that. The guys over at DxOMark got ahold of the HTC 10 and put it through it’s paces. Right now it’s at the top of the charts tied with the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge with a score of 88 out of 100.

DxOMark found that the HTC 10 had great exposure, color, and white balance. In particular it excelled at auto focusing and texture scoring a 93 out of 100 in those tests. As far as flaws it loses sharpness around the corners and highlights were blown out in some outdoor photos.

Video was also very impressive showing good exposure, white balance, color, and fast auto focusing like in stills. The only issues being some residual motion in walking footage, luminance noise in low light, and focusing failures during panning.

Overall from the specs to the ratings this sounds like a huge improvement from the M9 and one of the big reasons it was overlooked last year. Hopefully this year the HTC 10 will lead to the comeback HTC really needs.
