Part of the fun of each new Android OS release is the revelation of the new dessert themed name. As well as all the speculation and debate that leads up to that reveal.  Recently with the beta for N out NYC has been spotted in the AOSP repositories. Which we assume stands for New York Cheesecake.

Of course this is just an internal name for it at Google. Previous versions have also featured internal names such as Key Lime Pie/Kit Kat, Lemon Meringue Pie/Lollipop, and Macadamia Nut Cookie/Marshmallow. As you can see the internal name usually has nothing to do with the name it launches with. Still it’s a fun little tidbit about Android N, and interesting to know what they are calling it for the time being.

In the meantime while we wait for the name to be finalized. It appears Google has been using their Opinion Rewards program to do a poll for the name. Some users have gotten a survey asking, What tasty food comes to mind that starts with the letter “N”? As well as a follow up question asking for your favorite tasty treat from a list which all start with “N”.
