India’s Freedom 251 just introduced a smartphone which costs only four dollars. That’s right just four dollars, that’s RS 251 in India. You can literally buy apps more expensive than this phone on the Play Store. While you wouldn’t expect your four dollars to go all that far. The phone isn’t quite as bad as you’d expect from the price tag. You actually are getting quite a bit of bang for the buck.

It comes with a 4 inch qHD IPS screen, a 1.3 GHz Quadcore Processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, 3.2MP rear facing camera, 0.3MP front facing camera, 1450mAh battery, microSD card slot which supports up to 32GB cards, plus Android Lollipop. As well as 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth, and an FM radio. There’s a lot of bang for your four bucks right there.

The phone is manufactured by Ringing Bells, and honestly I don’t know how they do it. The parts alone plus labor must add up to over four dollars certainly. The phone also comes with a one year warranty. This is pretty significant for India as it’s the second largest smartphone market in the world right behind China. This could help them connect even more users.

As you might expect this phone has drawn a lot of attention. So much so that ordering is actually down for it right now, because the site is being hammered. They are working on a solution right now. Freedom 251 was even trending higher than Samsung or Apple on Google yesterday for a time.
