Casio might not be known for the most stylish or high end watches, but they’ve always had a strong presence in the watch world. Now it looks like they are ready to jump into smart watches with the Casio Smart Outdoor Watch (WSD-F10). They are definitely targeting the outdoor market with this watch, a market that’s been unrepresented so far with Android Wear.
To do this they have special sensors and apps included which can be accessed by the TOOL button.”The upper right TOOL button brings up information such as compass direction, air pressure and altitude, sunrise and sunset times, tide graphs, and activity graphs—providing real-time information about changes in the natural environment and activity levels.” Their own custom apps will also assist you with trekking, cycling, and fishing.

It sports a pretty nice design and will be quite rugged. It’s built to military grade standards. “Tested to United States military standard MIL-STD-810 issued by the U.S. Department of Defense to perform in the rugged outdoors. Meets testing requirements under various environmental conditions including shock and vibration.” It’s even water resistant up to 50m, while it still keeps a quite stylish look.
The screen is a little on the smaller size at 1.32″ at a resolution of 300×320. It’s a dual layer LCD, featuring a monochrome and color display. Along with a flat tire. So that 1 month of battery life that they claim comes with a bit of a asterix. You only get that if you are using the time only mode in monochrome. While otherwise it should just last the typical day, like most other Android Wear watches.
It comes with big non slip buttons which can easily be pressed while wearing gloves. As well as a soft urethane plastic band. Which will conform to your wrist, and be comfortable to wear for long periods of time. All of this won’t come very cheap though. So besides being an outdoor enthusiast you better also have $500 sitting in the bank. As that’s what Casio expects to charge for the WSD-F10.
